The Broadsheet: Breaking news
Headlines from the Barron News-Shield August 10, 2022 edition, plus some extra, newsy recommendations from the editor.
Hello readers,
My Tuesday morning started with a stop at the Stanfold town hall on my way to work to vote in the Party Primary. Of course, I wanted to show off my ‘I Voted’ sticker after that, so next stop was Kwik Trip in Barron for coffee. I noticed one entry door was damaged. “That’s odd,"I thought. Stranger yet, when I got to work I heard that a door had also been broken at the Cupboard & Closet food pantry by burglars. I don’t know if there’s something in the water or the primary has people worked up or what.
Anyway, it was a long, weird Tuesday for me that culminated with firing off an email at 10:15 p.m. to the boss with an election results story. This week’s paper has a lot of news—as always—good, bad and bizarre. Thank you for reading.

Urban Rural Column
The saga of the Choco Taco has already taken a turn since I wrote my column about discontinued products. Ice cream treat maker Klondike says it may be coming back “in the coming years.” I hope so. If you missed the uproar over its initial plans to discontinue the treat, check out my column archives.

GIVE IT A LISTEN: I don’t watch/stream much TV. How does anyone have the time? But lately I have managed to squeeze in an episode or two a week of “Rutherford Falls” on Peacock. It’s a fun, light-hearted show that puts a rare spotlight on modern indigenous culture. Marketplace has a good 2-minute story on the a new era of TV that centers on Native people and their stories.
That’s all I’ve got for this week. Thanks for reading. If you need to catch up on local news or are looking for more Editor’s Picks, check out the archives at newsshield.substack.com.
